The Simpleton's Opinions are but his thoughts
One’s initial thoughts are often unregulated, imprecise and highly subjective. They are rarely based on objective, evidential thinking.
غالباً ما تكونُ خواطرُ المرءِ الأوليةُ غيرَ منضبطةٍ وغيرَ دقيقةٍ وتكونُ ذاتانيةً إلى حدٍّ كبيرٍ. ونادراً ما تُبنى على تفكيرٍ استدلاليٍّ موضوعيٍّ.
The logical implications of initial thoughts and the status of their discordance or concordance with the thinker’s current beliefs are often unknown. Being cognisant of this is imperative, as every opinion one adopts entails a trade-off with its contradictory. Therefore, If these initial thoughts are not subjected to refinement, regulation, contemplation and careful study, they could very possibly lead to methodological inconsistency.
تُجهَلُ – غالباً – اللوازمُ المنطقيةُ للخواطرِ الأوليةِ وحالةُ تعارُضِها أو توافُقِها مع المعتقداتِ المسبَقةِ لدى المفكّرِ. ومعرفةُ ذلك والوعيُ بِهِ أمرٌ حتميٌّ ضروريٌّ، إذْ كلُّ رأيٍّ يتبنَّاهُ الإنسانُ يستلزمُ تركَ نقيضِه. لِذا، لو لم تُخضعْ هذه الخواطرُ الأوليةُ للتنقيحِ والضبطِ والتأمُّلِ والدراسةِ المتأنّيةِ، فَمِنَ المحتمَلِ جداً أنْ تؤدّيَ إلى التعارضِ المنهجيِّ.
In such cases of methodological inconsistency, a thinker will do one of two things: 1) Give up their current beliefs which contradict these implications in order to maintain the validity of their new thoughts, or they risk holding contradictory positions. Here, the insincere, arrogant and simple-minded do not even think about methodological consistency let alone give up their beliefs due to it. Alternatively, if they do not give up their current beliefs, they will 2) be forced to reinterpret them, moulding them in such a way which forces them to be consistent with their new thoughts. This is often done through self-deception due to cognitive dissonance and subsequent rationalisation.
وفي مثلِ هذه الحالاتِ مِنَ التعارضِ المنهجيِّ، يقومُ المفكّرُ بأحدِ أمرينِ: 1) التخلّي عن معتقداتهِ المسبَقةِ التي تتعارضُ مع هذه اللوازمِ، حتَّى تصحَّ خواطرُهُ الجديدةُ، وإلَّا؛ فإنَّه يخاطرُ بتبنِّي مواقفَ متعارِضةٍ. ومِنَ الجديرِ ذكرُهُ هنا أنَّ الأشخاصَ غيرَ المخلصينَ والمتكبِّرينَ وبسطاءَ العقولِ لا يفكِّرونَ في الاتِّساقِ المنهجيِّ أساساً، فضلاً عَنِ التخلّي عن معتقداتِهم بِسَبَبِهِ. وعلى الطرفِ النقيضِ، لو لم يتخلَّ المفكِّرُ عن معتقداتِهِ المسبَقةِ، فَسَيَضْطَرُّ إلى 2) إعادةِ تفسيرِها: يُشكِّلُها بطريقةٍ تُجبِرُها على أنْ تتَّسقَ مع خواطرِهِ الجديدةِ. ويتمُّ ذلك غالباً بِخداعِ النفسِ بِسَبَبِ التنافُرِ المعرفيِّ ثمَّ العَقْلَنَةِ.
In addition to methodological consistency, for an opinion to truly be an opinion, it must be based on some sort of evidence, albeit wrong, as genuine opinions are earned, not inherited. If the formation of a declared opinion does not involve cognitive effort due to evidential thinking, it is probably purely subjective. This is perhaps the case for the majority of people. Accordingly, Most ‘opinions’ are merely pre-theoretical intuitions and unregulated biases. Making a direct epistemic leap from initial thoughts to adopted opinions is akin to the thinking process of young children and it is the way of the ignorant and simple-minded; whatever comes to mind is what reality is. Thus, the simpleton epistemically synonymises thoughts with opinions, consciously or subconsciously.
بالإضافةِ إلى الاتِّساقِ المنهجيِّ، يجبُ أنْ يستندَ الرأيُ إلى نوعٍ مِنَ الأدلةِ لِيكونَ الرأيُ رأياً حقيقياً، حتَّى وإنْ كانَ الدليلُ خاطِئاً، لأنَّ الآراءَ الحقيقيةَ مكتسَبةٌ، وليستْ موروثةً. وإذا كانَ تكوينُ الرأيِ المصرَّحِ بِهِ لا يتضمَّنُ جُهداً ذهنياً بِسَبَبِ التفكيرِ الاستدلاليِّ، فَمِنَ المحتمَلِ جداً أنْ يكونَ الرأيُ رأياً ذاتانياً بحتاً، ورُبّما هذا هو حالُ معظمِ الناسِ. وعليهِ، فإنَّ معظمَ الآراءِ مجرَّدُ تقديراتٍ أوّليةٍ بلا تنظيرٍ، وتحيُّزاتٍ قَبْلِيّةٍ بلا تدبيرٍ. إنَّ القَفْزَ المعرفيَّ المباشرَ مِنَ الخواطرِ الأوّليةِ إلى الآراءِ المتبنَّاةِ شبيهٌ بِعمليةِ تفكيرِ الأطفالِ الصغارِ، وهي طريقةُ الجهّالِ وبسطاءِ العقولِ؛ كلُّ ما يتبادرُ إلى الذهنِ هو ما هو عليهِ الواقعُ. هكذا يساوي السطحيُّ بَيْنَ الأفكارِ والآراءِ، بِوَعْيٍّ أو بِدونِهِ.
